Big Yellow Taxi and Field Below

      The music and the tone are completely different for the "Big Yellow Taxi" lyrics and song. The song lyrics seemed all depressing but the tone of the song was all happy. I think that's because they wanted the song to seem good but to have a deeper meaning. The song "Field Below"  had a sad tone and a sad mood. It talked about loss plus the song had a slow melody so it made it seem way more sad.

Mullets

Billy Ray Cyrus had a mullet,
people got mad and hit Hannah Montana with a bullet.
Her long blonde hair had to go,
people buried her in the snow.
and took all of her dough.

The Climb

      The poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is an inspiration poem. It's told throughout the perspective of the Mother to her son. Personally my Mom is one of my inspirations so it would be easy to write about her. So if he he talking throughout his mom in the poem she obviously means a lot to him because she inspires him. One sentence that really nabbed my attention was, "For I'se still goin', honey,I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair." Personally I liked it because it was talking about lifes struggles and its just going to get harder as it goes on. I know that's not what you want to hear but it is; you just have to keep going. "Life's a climb, but the view is great." Hannah Montana the Movie.

The Scars

        There are events in life that change you forever. Some make you a better person, others can make you change the way you look at the world, and others can scar you for life. Melinda Sordino had a scarring moment that changed the way she looked at the world and would eventually make her a stronger person. Her whole rest of her life she will always have her scars, scars that define her, scars that tell her story. Every scar has a story; some are deeper than others though.

            How the scarring began.It was a hot summer night the last few weeks before school started. It was a typical high school party loud music and underage drinking. Melinda, a typical freshman girl overwhelmed by the scene, just wants to be popular and fit in. Like everyone else she drinks and drinks and drinks. She gets drunk; then comes a drunken teenage guy which makes him even more sex-crazed than usual. He wants her and he takes her to be alone then it leads to rape. She doesn’t know what to do, she’s frightened and confused. Melinda calls the cops and her social life, self-esteem, and friend numbers all goes down from that one event in life.

            The effects of the scar? Day one of high school on the bus: “As they walk down the aisle, people who were my middle-school lab partners or gym buddies glare at me. I close my eyes. This is what I’ve been dreading. As we leave the last stop, I am the only person sitting alone”  (3).  How would you like it if no one liked you? Even your parents didn’t like to be with you? They fought all the time and they wouldn’t be together if it weren’t for you? Would you cry yourself to sleep every night? Or something more fatal such as committing suicide?

            People can be affected for a long time because of sexually assaults. Recently I went on the Oprah website to look for stories. I read one about Gregg and April Milligan, a pair of siblings who were assaulted by their mother and random men for over several years. It made me sick to think about it was their mother the person who was supposed to love them. Who was supposed to be there for them no matter what? Not to sell her kids off like they are on Ebay. It took him over 20 years to finally start getting his life in check. That meant starting therapy --  he did that for around 5 years. I bet that put a big dent in his pocket. But eventually he had a happy marriage and a son. He blocked out his past and made an effort to become a new person. 

            Eventually everyone will have a defining moment in their life not always assault. Everyone has their own kind of scars, some more proud than others. But they make us who we are all unique in our own ways. Sometimes they aren’t always external scars, some are to the heart, and those are the ones I believe hurt the most.

Watch Out for "It"

Author’s note: On page 152 Melinda writes a note to Rachel warning her to stay away from Andy Evans. I’m writing in the point of view of me and what I would say to her.

I know you don’t like to be seen with me anymore or to talk to me because of what you think I did. Truthfully I wouldn’t want to be friends with such a sorrowful person like me either but slowly I am finding myself again, that’s how I got the courage to write you this letter. Andy Evans isn’t the sweet innocent guy he seems to be, he is a deceiving sex crazed boy that thinks he can get away with anything. I don’t want you to get hurt like I did, so I’m warning you to stay away.

Prediction of Speak

           
My prediction is that she will commit suicide because she is so depressed with her parents, and having no friends, and people are pressuring her in school. Melinda believes that her parents wouldn’t be together if it weren’t for her being there. Also all her friends hate her now because she supposedly called the cops on them at a high school party. So not only does she think her parents don't like her, but also her friend are against her too. This story reminds me of another book called "Delirium" because in that book, Lena, the main character, comes to face the hard facts that her father died, and her mother doesn't want her. Not only that, but she decides to run away because her only friend turns on her. These two stories are similar like that. But back to the point. I strongly believe that Melinda will commit suicide because she doesn't know what to live for anymore.
